Conferences in London and visits to Plastic Surgery units in Germany planned for later this year.
BAPRAS2012: This year’s annual meeting of the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS) in December will be partnered for the first time by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). I think this is a superb idea, and one that can be used to build bridges and links between our two associations. Having been to several American Plastic Surgery meetings in the recent past, I think we can learn a lot from them (and them from us!). The meeting takes place over 4-days at the Royal College of Surgeons of England, in London, and will also be a great opportunity to catch up with colleagues, exchange ideas and learn from what is presented. I have submitted two papers to be presented by my team, but will not hear confirmation of their acceptance for another month or so.
Visit to the Wesseling Plastic Surgery Unit, Cologne, Germany:In late October I am due to visit the internationally renowned plastic surgery unit of Dr Dirk Richter. During the visit there will be both facial rejuvenation and body contouring operations. Visiting a colleague’s practice, and observing their techniques is the single best way to continue to learn and develop throughout one’s career as a plastic surgeon. It also provides a great opportunity to discuss why we do things the way we do, our experiences and our different approaches. Await updates in due course!
