The pre-Christmas news stories of the problems with PIP implants reared their head again. I have taken out a number of these faulty implants (some intact) and when they rupture, they are a real mess to remove. Despite non-medical grade silicone being used in the manufacture of these implants, there has been no link to cancer nor any other diseases. What does seem apparent though, is that there rupture rates appears to be significantly higher than what would be considered acceptable. Therefore, a high rupture rate combined with poor quality silicone suggests that removal (with or without replacement with better quality implants) should be recommended.
